A conversation between (he)lang and S2S ......
Lang: Hi! So happy to hear that you come to see us again !
S2S: Yeah, last year I was here and it was awesome to see so many of you circling overhead before taking off the journey back to the northern hemisphere!
Lang: TQ to MNS(Malaysian Nature Society) for taking the initiative to organize this event to celebrate the migratory birds of prey (raptor/ eagle)journey back to our breeding grounds in the northern hemisphere.
S2S : Yep, they've done a good job to raise awareness on conservation of raptors and their habitats to the public. It seems it has attracted thousands of visitors over the years !
Lang: At least now more people know that we've been using Tanjung Tuan for thousand years to cross over the Straits of Melaka. Tanjung Tuan is the only remaining patch of coastal forest on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia
where we can rest and continue our journey home.
S2S: Wow, just can't imagine how you guys can fly so far back to your home in China, South Korea, Japan and even Russia. Phew, fantastic !
Lang:We use thermals produced by the land due to the heat from the sun to glide across the sky without flapping our magnificent wing, hee....hee...this way we can save energy.
S2S: Oh yes.....It's a beautiful sight when you guys soars with your magnificent wingspan beneath the wings up above the sky ! It reminds me " those who hope in Yahweh will renew their strength. They'll soar as with eagle's wings, they will run and not grow weary;they'll walk and never tire. (Isaiah 41:31)
Lang: We've strong feet, talons , hooked beaks and also equipped with exceptional vision that can spot prey from miles away. So, we're one of the nature's greatest hunters as our wings are built robust and powerful. God is so great yeah !
S2S: You're right. (I continue to look at the blue sky hoping to see more raptors)
Hmm,*sigh* of disappointment ! I compared the number of raptors spotted this year with last year's.......
S2S: This time I only managed to see one or two gliding isolated. There're less yeah ?!
Lang: Well, maybe the time when you were here ,we're not ready to depart yet. Anyway, it seems according to the report this year more volunteers joining the raptor count preogramme and they've spotted 37,876 raptors from 14th Feb to 14th April .It's definitely higher than the previous two years.
S2S: Wow, can't imagine how they can count the birds. Well, this year maybe just no luck to see you guys in such a great number. Got to go now, bye !
Lang: Come again next year .....see you ...bye !
The Raptor Watch is an annual event organised by the MNS and supported by the Tourism Ministry, Negri Sembilan and Malacca state governments.
Besides coming for the spectacular watch of the eagle, there're other interesting activities for everyone such as mangrove, beach and nature walks, performances, educational talks, children's camp, games art & crfts booths etc.It is no doubt a day for everyone to come and marvel the beauty of nature- God 's creation.
